ANONYMIZED CLIENT / GLOBAL CLOUD PBX / CARRIER-SCALE VOICE

Modernizing a carrier-scale global cloud PBX.

I owned the voice core and moved a live global PBX from blocking AGI monoliths to ARI services on Kubernetes, then added production monitoring and Janus video infrastructure for large customers.

CALL RATE~50K PEAK CPS

THE SITUATION

A carrier-scale PBX had to evolve without interrupting millions of daily calls.

Blocking AGI logic, large application monoliths and manual operational workflows increased deployment and troubleshooting risk. The platform needed independently deployable call services, elastic infrastructure and evidence that support could use immediately.

ARCHITECTURE

Separate edge, media, call logic and video so each layer can scale independently.

OpenSIPS owns routing, a large Asterisk fleet handles media, ARI services run product logic on Kubernetes, and Janus provides WebRTC video for enterprise customers.

WHAT I BUILT  /  HARD PROBLEMS

Modernize a live platform while it carries millions of calls.

AGI → ARI SERVICES

Moved blocking per-channel scripts into long-running, event-driven services with explicit channel and bridge state.

KUBERNETES AT SCALE

Decomposed monoliths, containerized the voice applications and made deployments faster and more repeatable across a large fleet.

OBSERVABILITY + VIDEO

Built monitoring that shortened support investigation, and introduced Janus infrastructure for large-customer video workflows.

OUTCOME

Faster releases, less downtime and shorter support investigations.

Call behavior became independently deployable and observable. Kubernetes reduced release friction, upgraded monitoring gave support useful evidence sooner, and the video layer expanded the platform beyond traditional PBX calling.
